Yet no credit at all to your boogeyman Jim Rutherford for being, you know, the one who actually got Marino for peanuts.

If I remember correctly, it was the rest of the scouting department banging the table telling JR he needs to get this guy.... so kudos for picking up the phone getting a guy he probably had no idea existed earlier in the year.

That’s usually how things work for every team. Not every GM is aware of every single player and prospect in the league.

I think Kevin Stevens was the one that got the most credit for finding him. I remember hearing in the past other executives (Shero maybe?) saying what a good scout he is. Glad he got over the drug problems.

The first PP I watched last night was odd. I was just looking at who costed the Pens possession while in the zone. Jake made two pretty sloppy errors that sent PIT chasing (I think Bjugstad made the 3rd, but you're already flailing when you have that rocky of a start). Jake doesn't strike me as the kind of player you want negotiating with the puck. He's a killer shooter and also lethal off of the rush, but as far as sitting back with the puck on his stick, he just doesn't possess it like some of the other people on the team.

Still hoping Galchenyuk can get something going! Boy, was he close last night!!

The only narrative that will ever be acknowledged by some is the one they construct based on their own subjective perceptions. Someone below is already saying how lucky GMJR was for hiring a scout, as though the scouts and coaches weren't consulted prior to any other move he has made. We're probably going to hear the ol' "Even blind squirrels get a nut once in awhile" comments, from the worshipers, if you pull that string.

Despite a poopy power play and the continuing problem with injuries, the Pens still found a way to win. Geno showing signs of his old self. Marino fitting in nicely. Sure would be nice if we could get AG going. Need the 2 points from the NYR on Tuesday.

The two most dominant franchises over the last decade, doing it two different ways.

Marino has been solid. He isnt great, but like RW said, he gives more than the guys making $3.25M & $4M.

Anyone think the Penguins will be interested in Taylor Hall? I dont see how they can make it work this season, but next year, you have some money coming off the books and I'm sure Johnson will be easier to trade with one less year on his deal than last season. I've always liked Hall. He is super talented and I feel has gotten a raw deal for most of his career. Would love to see him join any contender, even if it wasnt us.

I’m sure the pens will get linked to him as gmjr will obviously kick the tires to see if it’s reasonable but no. Would love it but no.

I was going to post the same thing as mdub. It’s kinda funny because we know RW reads the comments.. he’s super quick to hand out criticism but he holds back giving kudos to certain people at times. Jim Rutherford is one of those people

There’s been quite a bit of talk about trading Bjugstad lately, which doesn’t make a lot of sense to me because who’s going to give up much for $4.1MM forward with almost no production, and there’s been a lot of talks about him playing wing. Something we haven’t talked about is how valuable he is if an injury strikes

I read somewhere Stevens actually coached Marino as a youth and has always kept an extra eye on him. Sort of lucky and not necessarily repeatable to keep that close a tab on another team's 6th round pick. Great pick up, but you're just not usually going to know another team's obscure prospect that well, so it's not tat easy or else everyone would do it.

Completely agree. I really don't like Jake on the PP. Seem the rare player who is much more dangerous at ES. Still, I think his best spot is also Crosby's, so I'd keep him there if Sid is out, and Hornqvist, but if those 2 are back they should be the 2 working down low and they need to figure out the point and LW board players on the umbrella. Might need to add the LW board guy.

Going back a couple blogs, but Vic mentioned needing another true top 6 wings to emerge with Galchenyuk and Kahun as his top picks.

I agree on Kahun who I think can be Simon with more points. Galchenyuk I'm still not sure he fits the system despite his talent.

My top pick would actually be McCann if he can hold on to the spot next to Geno. That speed shot skill combo looks like he can get 20-25 a year, but at LW he's got Jake and Galchenyuk to contend with.

Honorable mention to Rust. I still don't see him as a top 6 guy, but players like him usually have 1 or 2 years where everything clicks and they get those numbers and maybe this is that year for him as he seems very motivated to get his name off the trade block.

> If they are going to be missing both Crosby and Letang there aren’t many teams they’d rather be playing than the Rangers.

Don't underestimate the Rags, with Zib back they're some solid competition...

Hope Sid is fine.

I watched the condensed game and noticed Galchenyuk much more noticeable. He needs to get a couple goals to get it going.

He'll almost assuredly have Galchenyuk's cap space available, and might well have Schultzie's available as well.....that's well in excess of $10 million. In other words, if Hall is viewed as potentially a key to this franchise's continued success, he's more attainable at first glance than most realize. Now, whether or not Hall is worth the kind of deal his agents will demand remains to be seen.

Of course, that equation doesn't take into account Matt Murray's new deal.......

"CHICAGO BLOWS THEIR WIN STREAK"

Yeah, the Hawks simply blew it, and the Pens had nothing to do with gaining a solid victory, not to mention without Sid for most of the 3rd period.

GAWD, WHY do I keep coming back here? This blog basically sucks.
